Identity Checks
This page covers every person who registers with or holds an account at Hanover Casino. It is relevant when you sign up, before any initial deposit is accepted, whenever you withdraw, and at any later time when our checks require more information.
Why do we verify players?
Verification keeps your account, your funds and our games secure. It confirms that every player is an adult, that each account is operated by its owner and that money moving through our cashier comes from a legitimate source. Accounts are available only in jurisdictions where national or local law permits online gambling, and each one is subject to Canadian rules on identity, age and money laundering.
Which records do you hold, and what do you have to report?
- We retain ID documents, check results and payment histories for as long as Canadian law requires.
- Only team members who require access can view these files, and all of them are held securely.
- Where legally required, we inform the appropriate Canadian authorities of high-value or suspicious transactions.
- If we submit a report like this, the law stops us from informing the player about it.
Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle and protect this information.
Do you screen for political exposure and sanctions?
Yes. We screen every account against official sanctions lists. This screening also picks up PEPs (politically exposed persons): people who occupy or have occupied high public office, together with family and close associates of such people.
- A PEP match does not stop you playing, but your account will go through more detailed checks.
- If we confirm a sanctions match, we cannot open the account, and an existing account cannot stay active.
When could I be asked about the source of my funds?
Some activity calls for a fuller picture of your finances, such as high total deposits or patterns that don't match your profile. When this happens, we ask how you fund your play. Suitable evidence may include tax documents, payslips, bank statements, or documents showing a sale or inheritance.
What happens when verification fails?
- Until we have what we need, we may pause deposits, play and withdrawals.
- Documents that look altered or belong to someone else lead to the account being closed.
- Any suspicion of fraud or money laundering means we freeze the funds and carry out the measures required by law.
- When we can, legitimate deposits on a closed account go back to the payment method first used to make them.
How do identity and age checks work, and which documents do you need?
Wherever we can, we verify your name, age and home address electronically. If this is not sufficient, we ask for clear copies of:
- Photo identification: any valid driver's licence, passport or provincial photo card.
- Address: a recently issued utility bill, or a bank statement, that displays your home address.
- Payment ownership: a bank statement or an e-wallet screenshot proving the account belongs to you. For cards, hide every digit except the first and last.
Documents should be sent in colour, showing all four corners. The name and details on them must match those on your account.
Do checks continue after sign-up?
Yes. Account activity is monitored continuously. Unusual deposits, quick withdrawals after little play, changes in payment method or a new location may prompt new checks. We may also ask for updated documents once your identification expires.
Where can I send documents or get answers about verification?
Email [email protected] with your documents or questions about this process. Please send files only to this address. For related rules, see our Player Agreement.
